Youth Workshops

Announcing fun drama camps for kids in 2018!

We are excited to start planning fun experiences for kids in the theater this summer!

Keep the Arcata Playhouse in mind with the holidays approaching, a workshop makes a great gift for the little ones!

We will offer three exciting workshops during the Summer 2018:

  • Puppet Camp, June 25 - 29, 2018
  • Pageant on the Plaza, July 9 - 21, 2018
  • Summer Youth Workshops from July 23 - 27, 2018

Puppet Camp (for ages 6 - 14) consists of a puppet building laboratory during the morning session.  Campers will be guided through a brainstorming, planning, and building process by the teachers.  The lab focuses on building your own puppet characters and puppet stages.  Campers will work with a variety of materials to construct one to three different kids of puppets.  In the afternoon campers will write and create original puppet plays with the puppet characters they build in the morning.  They will perform their plays in their own puppet festival on the last day of camp.  Parent and the community will be invited!  Registration form

Pageant on the Plaza, is an exciting two-week adventure into outdoor performance and spectacle for kids ages 9 to 14. See the Pageant on the Plaza website.  The two-week workshop begins with a week of skill building during which classes are presented in storytelling, character development, construction of large puppets, music, movement and stilt walking. The second week is dedicated to applying those freshly minted skills to building and rehearsing an original production to be performed at the end of a Saturdays' Farmers Market on July 22rd.  Registration form

Summer Youth Workshops are a collection of fun theater classes for kids ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 14. Classes are held Monday through Friday and end with a final presentation on the last day. Classes offered are Clown Town, Creative Movement, Comedy Cabaret and Theater Improvisation. For more information on the July 2017 workshops go to Summer Youth Workshops.  Registration form
