The Arcata Playhouse co-presents, “A Knock at the Door” with Belgium‘s Teatro Pachuco and company GIOLISU featuring Humboldt performer Rudi Galindo and Italian dancer/choreographer Lisa Da Boit on October 14 & 15.
The show is a physical theater exploration that uses dance, clowning and movement to tell a story of hope and imagination. A man and a woman lead us into a silent movie world that borders between dream and reality. They use the language of movement and gesture slowly building a silent dialogue that pushes the boundaries of dance and theater.
Rudi Galindo is the founding member and artistic director of Teatro Pachuco as well as a member and founder of the Humboldt born clown troupe Los Payasos Mendigos. His unique style of physical theater combines the elements of silent film, European clown, and contemporary dance. Teatro Pachuco has toured the world, entertaining more than a million smiling faces on four continents, winning international acclaim, awards, and fans worldwide.
Galindo is also an Ambassador of Clown through Clowns Without Border USA and Belgium, offering free shows and theater workshops to displaced and impoverished refugees in Mexico, Guatemala, Nepal, South Africa, Turkey and Belgium.
Lisa Da Boit is a professional dancer and choreographer. Trained as a gymnast since childhood, she moved to ballet and contemporary dance. Da Boit studied at the International Dance Center of Rosella Hightower in Cannes (France).She has been dancing professionally since 1994, working with companies in France, Belgium and Italy. She has been a co-creator and director of the company GIOLISU since 2001. The company is supported by the French Government of Belgium and is the “ company in residence” at Les Brigittines (Brussels).
