The 2017 Creamery Arts Festival celebrates the 100th anniversary of Arcata’s historic Creamery Building with four days of events August 17-20. Highlights include the Flynn Creek Circus, fermented food and drink at the Humboldt Fervor Fest, the giant puppets and lanterns of the ever-popular Elemental performance spectacle, and a whimsical outdoor exhibit of unique historical recreations by local artist Lush Newton. Thursday August 17 at 6 p.m. the festival kicks off with and opening reception for Lush Newton’s centennial inspired outdoor art exhibit “Golden State Creamery; The Land of Milk and Honey” which will feature oversized historical images around the building. In addition, the first of six shows by Mendocino County’s Flynn Creek Circus begins at 7 p.m. Come to the vintage big top tent for all-human spectacular performances by tightrope walkers, aerialists, jugglers, acrobats, and comedians. With their International cast, Flynn Creek Circus' 'Inter-Active' fuses comedy, improvisation and jaw dropping skills to create a completely new genre in circus-theater.
Friday August 18 at 8:15 pm presents the Playhouse’s signature outdoor performance spectacle Elemental. Pick out your favorite paper lantern and join the giant puppets, dancers, stilt walkers, and live music around the Creamery building. The evening ends with a special adult performance by the Flynn Creek Circus at 9 p.m.
Saturday August 19 from 1-5 p.m. sees the return of Humboldt Fervor Fest, a benefit for Humboldt Made, and the Arcata Playhouse. The event is full of fermentation fun with sauerkraut, kimchi, kvass, cheese, pickles, hard cider, distilled spirits, beer and wine tastings, and fermented non-alcoholic drinks. Kick back to live music from Latin locals Timbata, Paula Jones Band, Belles of the Levee, RLA jazz trio with violinist Rob Diggins and Bandamonium, plus some special surprises. Also, a kids area with bouncy castle and fun actvities. Flynn Creek Circus will perform at 3pm and 7pm.
Sunday August 20 closes the festivities with Flynn Creek Circus shows at 1pm and 4pm.
The Creamery Building tower will be open for guided tours Saturday, August 19, and there will be a festive courtyard sponsored by Bang, Bang! Vintage Clothing and Redwood Raks.

The historic Creamery Building is home to the Arcata Playhouse, Redwood Raks Dance Studios, Phoenix Ceramics, Tosha Yoga, Finigan & Thonson Custom Woodworks and vintage clothing store Bang! Bang! as well as musicians, potters, puppeteers and visual artists. The Creamery Building is centrally located in Arcata between 8th and 9th Streets at L Street and is easily accessible via the city’s new bike and walking trail that comes right through the neighborhood.
