Redwood Jazz Alliance welcomes Allison Miller back to Humboldt County at just the moment when she is having a Moment. The rest of the world seems to be recognizing what we've known for a long time: that Allison is a swinging, funky, and exceedingly musical drummer, a singular composer, and a superlative bandleader. She’s getting lots of press and rave reviews for Science Fair, her new album with pianist Carmen Staaf (which also includes guest spots from past RJA visitors Dayna Stephens and Ambrose Akinmusire), and she's showing up on TV with increasing frequency as a guest drummer with the band on Late Night with Seth Meyers. This past summer she was featured on NPR & Jazz at Lincoln Center's Jazz Night in America program; earlier, NPR Music placed her “Otis was a Polar Bear” among the Greatest Songs by 21st Century Women. We expect the buzz will only grow louder with the release of Boom Tic Boom's upcoming album Glitter Wolf, which Alli promises to have advance copies of for us.
