Arcata Playhouse 2018 Family Series kicks off with
Japanese storyteller Kuniko Yamamoto

The opening performance features internationally renowned Japanese storyteller and performer Kuniko Yamamoto in "Magical Mask, Mime and Music of Japan". Yamamoto enchants audiences of every age with dramatic storytelling using myths and fables from ancient and modern Japan, spiced with social revelations to educate and amuse. She uses traditional Japanese music, handcrafted masks, stylized movement and a touch of magic to create an artistic balance of illusion and reality. Tickets
This enduring series has consistently brought wonderfully unique touring artist to Humboldt County for shows at the Arcata Playhouse. Over its twelve year history the series has become an Arcata and Humboldt County mainstay for families looking for quality, affordable entertainment for children and adults alike. The series has hosted performing companies from across the U.S. and Canada, England, Scotland and Australia. With both school and public performances of family theater, storytelling, puppetry and variety performances the series is known for its intimate setting and for outstanding performers and this year's series is no different.
The series is supported by funding from generous local business sponsors Kokatat Watersports Wear, Holly Yashi Jewelry and Wildberries Marketplace as well as other local businesses that support the school performances.
"Magical Mask, Mime and Music of Japan" with Kuniko Yamamoto performs Friday, March 16 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 17 at 2 & 7 p.m.
Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 students and members and $10 for children 12 and under or $45 for a family of four or more. March 5 through March 11 the Arcata Playhouse presents the Second Annual 02F: Zero To Fierce Festival, providing an opportunity for members of the community to learn, laugh and listen to inspiring and entertaining women.
Co-Director Jacqueline Dandeneau has been working hard to produce a memorable event." I am very excited to be able to bring such provocative and outstanding programming to the Arcata Playhouse and the Creamery District.”
This week long festival will feature over 35 events and entertainment opportunities including a Lunchbox Series, the Fringe Festival, the 02F Cabaret, Undercovered: a Bosnian film, the return of the Convivial Symposium, interactive art opportunities, The Creamery District Night Market, classes, workshops and a series of discussion panels on racial equity, radical self cafe and activism.
