This Workshop is designed for Beginners to Advanced (And it is lots of fun)! Many of the techniques and tricks of puppet making will be demonstrated and the hands-on format will have each participant, in the end, the happy owner of their own custom Mouth Rod Puppet! The techniques covered will demystify the process and empower the participants to go on the make more advanced puppet characters. Materials are provided. It is suggested you bring a pair of standard pliers, a #11 Exacto blade and a pair of good scissors, but some will be available.
Techniques covered will include Cutting and gluing foam, hand plates, mouth plates, working with wire, making a proper rod, hand stitching, working with fleece and fur, eyes, as well as characterization, manipulation, movement, and what makes a good story and performance! So Much Fun! We will present in the Showcase on Saturday what we have learned.
Mary Hildebrand Nagler has been performing, teaching and making puppets professionally for forty+ years and has worked for some of the premiere shops in the Nation including: The Puppet Heap (Muppets), Rick Lyon Studios (Avenue Q), Images in Motion (Being John Malkovich) and many more. Puppets are her passion. She has many fun industry tales to tell!
